The second year of the charity auction "Potties for premature babies" brought in proceeds of CZK 360,500 to help premature babies
On Monday, March 27, 2017, the second annual charity auction organized by the Museum of Historical Potties and Toilets took place. The goal of the event was to raise funds to help those in need. This year, the Foundation Fund for premature babies and their families, which helps specific families throughout the country, became a charitable partner.
30 well-known personalities from the ranks of actors, singers, musicians, painters and representatives of fashion and top medicine took part in the charity event.
The auction was led by the actor and moderator Petr Rychlý, also the author of one of the works, who with his enthusiasm and incredible energy helped to raise an incredible amount of CZK 360,500 for the foundation fund during the exciting two-hour auction.
The greatest success was achieved by the following works: "Five stained glass windows" by the singer and actor Tomáš Trapl (CZK 60,000), "Farmhouse under the Linden" oil painting by the actress Míša Kuklová (CZK 47,000), or "Doňa Pipi", a colorful work decorated with pearls, created by a fashion designer Laffita ottomans (CZK 32,000).
In the Czech Republic, every twelfth child is born prematurely. The Endowment Fund for Premature Babies and Their Families is the only fund in this area that helps families financially, pays for the transportation of parents for a long-term hospitalized child after birth, contributes to special medical aids, nutrition, rehabilitation and other necessary things.
The founder of the endowment fund Ing. Hana Píšová did not hide her emotion and enthusiasm after the end of the auction: "We are all excited about the result of the auction. It was possible to raise an amazing amount of money that will help several dozen families. I want to thank all the creators, but also the people who participated in the whole project for more than half a year. To all partners and sponsors, thanks to which the implementation costs are zero and the entire amount collected goes to direct assistance to those in need. We also thank Peter Rychlé, who gave an incredible performance without entitlement to a fee and auctioned off all the works during a captivating two-hour one-man show".
The director of the Museum of Historical Potties and Toilets commented on everything by saying: "I was very nervous about how today's auction would turn out. We got thirty personalities who gave their time and artistic skills to create their works. Partners who donated porcelain potties, paints and helped with the realization of the evening. Another effort was to adequately present the event to the public and excite potential buyers. I am very satisfied that everything worked out. The whole evening was fun and beneficial at the same time. I thank everyone for their help with the organization, Mr. Rychlé, the creators and above all the auctioneers for such a nice return. Now I can safely say that the whole project made sense."
The museum has the largest collection of historical potties and toilets in the world. The partners of the charity event were the companies Český porcelán a.s., KOH-I-NOOR HARDTMUTH a.s., Městská část Prague 1, Delicato Restaurants, KÁVA PRAHA, NFCP Rental Equipment, Halla, a.s.

Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go?
I cannot paint. I even had someone to help me, but that is a secret. I decided to go with a collage of photos taken from the “Anděl Páně” (opět název, bych nechal, a jen treba dat za nazev do zavorky: A Czech movie) fairytale, which I believe makes people happy. Therefore it is my hope that the potty will do so as well.
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction?
The highest. It is for a good cause, so let everyone spend as much as they can.
Do you know the Museum of Hygiene, which besides being the largest one in the world is now regularly involved in various charity events?
I do, and I find it very inspiring. When one visits the museum, he realizes that it is possible to take a dump and make it into an esthetically interesting artifact.

Yes, I do. Thank God it exists.
Have you ever encountered this problem in your life?
I have not, but I have seen a photo of an unborn baby which was as small as a pen. That picture left a big impact on me. What surprised me even more though, was the team of nurses and doctors capable of transforming the poor thing into a healthy and beautiful child later.
What is the name you chose for your potty and why?
Honza. He is very lazy and that’s why I named the potty after him. Noone would want to leave their warm bed to go to on a potty, and this way he had it accessible right away under his bed.

Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go? We searched for it in the moment itself and the creation took place in the presence of many beloved creatures. We painted the pot at my friend’s cottage surrounded by children, dogs, cats, and good vibes.
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction? I love the number 21 lately. So if it is going to be hundreds, or thousands, it will be great. But the reality may be different for every single person. I do hope though, that it is going to be the highest, because it is for a good cause.

Oh yeah, I always go around this place and promise myself that I will visit it. I did not know that it donates to charity though, since I did not fulfill that promise yet.

Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go?
It was immediately clear to me that my potty should display a homestead, nature, and the evening sunlight. I have felt the desire to paint something like this for a long time, because I have always been fascinated by the village homesteads, the nature, cows, horses…
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction?
Of course I would love for my potty to contribute with the highest amount of money, but one has to stay humble. I do not wish to say any particular number at the moment, as I do not want to limit the potential buyer. Personally, I will be grateful for any contribution.
Have you ever encountered this problem in your life?
Yes, and not only once. Fortunately, the children have always managed to get through it and catch up. Personally, I was also born prematurely, as my lungs were not fully developed yet.

Probably while sitting on a toilet.
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction?
Whichever amount helps the fund you support.
Have you ever encountered this problem in your life?
Yes. My brother’s son Nenuko was born just in the 25th week of pregnancy. Today, he is a lovely boy, and he is 17 years old.

Opera singer, mezzo-soprano, named her potty "Sunflowers".
Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go? I looked at the Sunflowers painting by Vincent Van Gogh…. At that moment, I could not imagine a better inspiration than that. I consider myself quite dexterous, so I finished painting the potty in approximately 2 hours.
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction? I really do not know….. but I do hope that the Van Gogh fans will not disappoint….. In fact, they can put the potty under the actual Sunflowers painting and create a beautiful scenery that way.

I have to admit that until creating this piece for your museum I had no idea about its existence. But I find it amazing that there is always something new to discover, and that your museum charitably supports this project.

A child to me is like an apple blossom- born into the life of miniature gaieties and kind marauders.

2) I I do not know how much the actual white pot costs….. I value my piece for at least 1500 CZK…
Have you ever encountered this problem in your life?
I have a friend who works as a nurse in the ARO department, where she cares for the preterm born infants- it is mentally as well as physically incredibly difficult, and exhausting job, which may lead to an occupational burnout….. The fight for the lives of these helpless creatures…. I know several other stories…the good ones and the worse ones as well…

Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go? I read several emails every day, therefore I see the “@” every day.
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction? The real value is immeasurable, but I will settle for a crown (1 CZK).

Have you ever encountered this problem in your life? I know that the number of prematurely born babies is increasing, that’s why the science has made a huge step forward in this area. It is also important to provide the children with a more intensive care.

Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go?
I was inspired by various paintings which can be created by a single line…..and because I love the nature, animals….love…. that’s what is displayed on my pot. I painted a fish tank with a goldfish inside, oh yeah, and there is a church incense painted on the bottom. J since it is a potty.
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction?
I mainly hope that it will be sold, and help someone. I don’t want to say any actual amount at the moment.

Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go?
I imagined where one would most preferably go “take a dump”. The nature, and the flowers win in my taste. Most preferably the ones which won’t scratch you with nothing dangerous lurking inside. Also, they should be pretty so that even our “poo” enjoys them. The creation was very smooth and joyful!
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction?
It would please me very much if my potty was sold for at least 20 000 CZK.

I can vaguely remember a plastic one from my childhood, which I did not like. It was not until my visit to your museum that I saw the beautiful ones.

Film and theater director, together with pupils of the Elementary Art School prepared a potty called "In spring, everything goes better" for our auction.
Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go? In early December, I attended the awards ceremony organized by the Art School for the winners of the international art competition in Písek for the twentieth time. When I spoke with the talented pupils and students, I realized that I can “leave” my task to them. At first, they were suspicious and thought that I was only joking when I told them that I’d want them to paint on a “potty”. But when I showed them the pot and the paints they became convinced, and promised to help me. I did not restrict them at all, in fact I let them paint whatever they wanted. I was very pleasantly surprised when they gave me a golden pot with a spring dandelion motive, and the inside having a “deep pond” look. It may hide other surprises than just a final metamorphosis state of the food you ate. I do not want to take credit for other people’s work though. All the admiration belongs to the young artists from Písek.
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction? The highest one of course, because the money will be used for a honorable cause, which will help many children. The children are paying the children in this case.
Do you know the ´Premature babies and their families´ endowment fund, to which the proceeds from the auctioned pots will be donated? I am familiar, and delighted with it. I consider myself to be a big fan of it.
What is the name you chose for your potty and why? We used to have a massive, brown potty made out of stoneware, which could contain up to 5 liters! Even when it was empty it was very heavy. And unbreakable! Just recently I saw it in “cochárna” (A place where you can find anything you want)….it’s still the same.

Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go?
I searched for an inspiration in the melody and the overall atmosphere of a song called “Jak mi dupou králíci” (“How my rabbits stomp”). Even though Petr Skoumal composed it in a marching rhythm, I had an idea that the rabbits could stomp in a rhythm of Cancan this time. That’s why I painted them like that considering the pot’s circular and continual shape.
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction?
If I consider the price of an actual rabbit that can dance Cancan, a 100 000 CZK seems like a quite relevant price.

Where did you look for the inspiration and how did the creation itself go? I love wine and the winemakers. Also, we have a new law that has just been passed for the winemakers. The “Guilt-free potty” may come in handy once the wine growers actually read the law.
For the past 20 years, I have been producing various cultural events at the exhibit in the town of Litoměřice. One of my addictions after this activity is the consumption of the local Tramín (local wine). That’s why it is the number one in my opinion. The second place belongs to the Moravian wines, and the last but not least are the French, Spanish, Italian, and Austrian wines. Therefore, my potty is a European one which does not want to be controlled by Brussels, but by the Museum of Hygiene. The creation was difficult, long, and very sticky.
How high would you like the actual bid for your potty to be at the auction? I’d love the bid to be 100 000. Euros preferably. But I know the reality, and I will be happy with 10 000 CZK. Every crown is good for a good cause…

I was fascinated by the doctors’ work ethic when I visited the Preterm birth department in a hospital.
